1896, Aug 1 Launched at Wyndotte, MI; named for British inventor & civil engineer who experimented with iron ship construction.

1898, Jul 18 Car ferry on Detroit River came between FAIRBAIRN & her tow, barge CORLISS, cutting tow line; no damage to vessels.

1901 Owned Pittsburgh S.S. Co, Duluth, MN.

1920 Reboilered, two 11'10" x 12' scotch boilers, 176# working pressure from American Ship Building Co., Cleveland, OH.

1922 Reconstructed Conneaut, OH; 424.6 x 45.8 x 23.9', 3807 gross/2760 net tons, side tanks, 4 holds, 13 hatches on 24' centers.

1936 Owned Buckeye S.S. Co., Cleveland.

1959 Owned Gamma Lake Ship Co. (Continental Grain Co.), used as grain storage hulk.

1962 Owned Marine Salvage, Ltd., Port Colborne, ONT.

1964 Scrapped.
