- Description
- The Eddy Family has a long history of doing business in Alpena. The Alpena City Directory for 1893-1894 lists the "Eddy Brother (Nelson M. and Henry G.). Plumbers and Steam Fitters and Hot Air Heating, 110 E. Washington av." In the early 1900s, they built the Eddy Block as home for the Eddy Engineering Company. This block is located on the south side of Chisholm Street, neat the middle of the block, between Second and Third Avenues.
The Eddy Brothers were owners of the patented Eddy System - an automatic steam heating system. This system was used in many homes and public buildings in Northeast Michigan, including Alpena City Hall, which was built between 1904 and 1908. The business was carried on by other family members, notably Lomas C. Eddy, who retired in 1982. The business was continued, on a smaller scale, by his son, Lomas H. Eddy. - Date of Original
