Norman Gapske Postcard Collection

Norman Edward "Norm" Gapske, a native of the Alpena County area, collected postcards pertaining to NE Michigan for most of his lifetime. He was born on July 31, 1932, to parents Emil and Alma Gapske in Alpena, MI. He graduated from Alpena High School in 1951, followed by receiving his B.S. in Marketing from Ferris State University. He later attended Western Michigan University where he earned an M.A. in the teaching of vocational and office education. He worked as a store manager for Kroger and National foods and as a high school teacher in Albion, MI until his retirement in 1993. Upon his passing on September 13, 2019, his wife Barbara L. Gapske donated his postcard collection to the Library for educational and research purposes in 2020.
